Pink Lady Apples the Best for our Health
Edith Cowan University (ECU) tested 91 varieties of apples finding that the WA-bred apples had the highest polyphenol content, which is the best for our health as its natural compounds are associated with decreasing the risk of heart disease, diabetes, and cancer. ECU’s research showed that more than half the polyphenols were found in the skin, so to get the greatest health benefits, you have to eat the whole thing.
The Pink Lady variety was found to contain the most polyphenols and therefore provided the greatest health benefits. Pink Lady apples, when tested, measured the levels of these compounds in the blood of test subjects. It showed differences in how people absorb and breakdown these compounds and the beneficial effects of the apple.
